As a molecular modeler, have you ever felt constrained by a single perspective of your molecular design? Whether you’re analyzing intricate structures, preparing impressive visual representations, or debugging complex models, switching between different viewpoints can be time-consuming. Here’s where SAMSON’s multiple cameras functionality becomes a game-changer.
The camera in SAMSON acts as your virtual navigation tool, offering you a 3D view into your molecular world. But did you know you can use multiple cameras in a single document to optimize your workflow?
Imagine this scenario: you’re visualizing a protein structure. One moment you need a close-up view of the active site, the next an overview of the entire molecule, and perhaps a side-by-side view of ligand interactions. Instead of manually readjusting the view each time, SAMSON lets you set up multiple cameras with distinct positions and properties.
How It Works
You can use multiple cameras within a single document to quickly shift between predefined viewpoints. Set a camera focused on the region of interest, another for a general overview, and switch between them with ease. To switch between cameras, simply double-click on the desired camera or right-click it in the Document view context menu and select Set as active camera.

Streamline Your Workflow
- Center the camera on a specific selection or the whole document to highlight the structure of interest at any time.
- Enable camera inertia for smooth viewpoint transitions when navigating intricate models.
- Switch to an orthographic projection, perfect for viewing symmetrical structures such as crystals.

Fine-Tune with the Inspector
For maximum control, you can view and modify all camera properties, including position, projection type, and inertia settings, through the Inspector. This gives you the ability to tailor views for specific tasks or visual presentations with precision.

Why It Matters
Whether you’re presenting your research to a team or diving deep into molecular analysis, having pre-configured camera views saves time and enhances clarity. With the flexibility to switch instantly between perspectives, you’ll work faster and reduce manual adjustments, letting you focus on what really matters: your molecular designs.
