For molecular modelers, presenting dynamic, visually engaging transitions can make molecular demonstrations more impactful and comprehensible. A common challenge arises when certain visualization elements need to gradually disappear or fade away without abrupt visual disruptions. Fortunately, SAMSON’s Disappear animation provides a streamlined and highly customizable solution to this issue, ensuring smooth transitions for nodes with transparency attributes.
What is the Disappear Animation?
The Disappear animation in SAMSON allows selected nodes to progressively vanish by increasing their transparency over time. This feature can be applied to nodes such as structural models, visual models, meshes, and labels. For nodes that lack a transparency attribute—such as individual atoms and bonds—it works similarly to the Hide animation.
For example, when working with atoms and bonds, adjustments must be applied to their parent structural model. This ensures desired opacity changes for coherent and visually logical transitions.
How to Add the Disappear Animation
Adding the Disappear animation in SAMSON is straightforward:
- Select the nodes you wish to progressively disappear. This could be any compatible node such as a structural model or label.
- Open the Animation panel in the Animator interface.
- Double-click the Disappear animation effect to apply it.
The animation decomposes into four keyframes:
- Between keyframes 1 and 2, nodes remain fully opaque.
- Between keyframes 2 and 3, transparency progressively increases, causing nodes to fade out.
- Between keyframes 3 and 4, nodes are fully transparent.
You can freely move keyframes along the timeline to match the pacing and specific flow of your molecular presentation.
Taking Control Over Animation Properties
For added flexibility, you can refine how the Disappear animation behaves by modifying its easing curve. The easing curve determines how the transparency values transition between keyframes, allowing for smoother or more dramatic fading effects.
By tailoring this curve, you gain creative control, making it possible to match the animation’s speed and characteristics to the narrative of your presentation.

Making Molecular Presentations Stand Out
In molecular modeling, clear and dynamic presentations are essential for impactful communication. The Disappear animation in SAMSON not only simplifies this process but also ensures professional-grade visuals. Whether showcasing subtle structural changes, illustrating complex mechanisms, or simply polishing transitions, this feature provides indispensable utility.
