Molecular modeling often involves dealing with a multitude of tools and features to design, analyze, and simulate molecular systems. For many molecular modelers, the challenge lies in having flexibility while keeping workflows streamlined. This is where SAMSON Extensions come into play, helping users customize and extend the capabilities of the SAMSON platform. In this post, we’ll delve into how to add, manage, and subscribe to SAMSON Extensions effectively.
What are SAMSON Extensions?
SAMSON Extensions are modular features that enable users to perform a variety of tasks—whether it’s specific simulations, advanced visualizations, or accessing new analysis tools. These extensions help you tailor the SAMSON platform to suit your specific workflows. Some extensions are included in certain plans, while others may require subscriptions. Luckily, managing them is designed to be straightforward!
Adding Free Extensions
Add accessible extensions through the SAMSON Extensions Marketplace. Once signed in to your account on SAMSON Connect:
- Go to the Marketplace section to browse available extensions.
- Click the Add button next to any freely available extension to integrate it into your SAMSON installation. The extension will appear marked as “Added.”
Restarting SAMSON ensures the newly added extension is downloaded and installed automatically.

Trying and Subscribing to Extensions
Some extensions are available through a subscription plan. However, SAMSON offers the option to try these extensions before committing. The process includes:
- Visiting the extension’s dedicated page in the Marketplace.
- Clicking “Request trial.” This does not require credit card information.
During the trial period, the extension will be marked as “Trying.” At the end of the trial, users can decide whether to subscribe through monthly, yearly, or academic plans depending on eligibility.

Once subscribed, the extension is labeled as “Subscribed.” These subscriptions can be managed from your SAMSON account settings.

Removing Extensions
Managing your SAMSON environment also means tidying up when an extension is no longer needed. To remove an extension:
- Sign in to SAMSON Connect and go to “Marketplace” or “Account > Settings.”
- Locate the desired extension in “View my extensions.”
- Hover over the “Added” button, which will change to “Remove,” and click it to delete the extension from SAMSON.
The removed extension will remain listed in your account for future reinstallation.

Why Streamlined Extension Management Matters
The flexibility to customize your toolkit without unnecessary clutter is crucial for molecular modelers. Searching for a specific extension, trying it without financial commitment, and managing subscriptions all ensure that you can focus on modeling and simulations without distractions.
