Tailoring the SAMSON Interface to Your Needs.

Molecular modelers often find themselves overwhelmed by the complexity of software interfaces. Navigating crowded menus and panels can divert attention from what truly matters: molecular design. SAMSON, the integrative platform for molecular modeling, understands this challenge and offers an intuitive, customizable interface. In this blog post, we’ll explore how to personalize your SAMSON workspace for streamlined efficiency and improved productivity.

Why Customize Your Interface?

The SAMSON interface includes several key panels such as the menu, viewport, document view, inspector, history, asset browser, and animator. While these elements are powerful, not every user needs them all at once or in the same configuration. Rearranging the workspace allows you to adapt the tools to your workflow, keeping the most-used features within easy reach and minimizing distractions.

How to Customize?

The customization process is simple and intuitive. Here’s how you can adapt the SAMSON interface to meet your unique needs:

  • Dragging and Docking: Panels like the Document view, History, and Inspector can be repositioned by clicking on their title bars and dragging them to a new location. For example, if the Inspector is critical to your workflow, you might dock it next to the viewport for quick adjustments. Release the mouse to dock the panel in its new position.
  • Pinning Important Panels: Some windows, like apps, allow you to click a “Pin” icon to keep them above other panels. This is especially useful for ensuring essential tools don’t get buried as you work.
  • Switching Workspaces: Through the Interface menu, you can toggle between different workspaces. Changing workspaces modifies the menu representation, giving you tailored access to functionality specific to different tasks. For instance, you can have one workspace focused on structure building and another for simulation analysis.
  • Showing or Hiding Panels: To declutter your interface, you can hide parts of the interface using the Interface menu or by using shortcuts. For example, press Ctrl + 1 (or Cmd + 1 on macOS) to show or hide the Document view.

Save Your Preferences

One of the standout features of SAMSON is that your customization settings are saved automatically. This means the next time you launch SAMSON, your workspace will already be adjusted to your preferences.

Tips for Enhanced Productivity

To maximize your efficiency, consider adding your most-used apps, editors, and commands to the Favorites section. This special area appears at the top of the ribbon menu and in the viewport menu. Simply hover over an item and click the star icon (⭐) to add it to your favorites. Want to remove an item? Just click the star icon again.
