The Flash animation effect allows specified nodes to appear and disappear based on keyframes. Unlike changing transparency, which can cause visual clutter, Flash manages visibility cleanly, making nodes effectively hidden or visible as needed. This can be especially helpful in simplifying complex molecular models where only certain elements need emphasis during specific sequences.
How Flash Animation Works
Once you’ve identified the nodes you want to control, adding the Flash animation is a straightforward process:
- Double-click on the Flash effect in the Animation panel of the Animator.
- The Flash animation will generate 4 keyframes to control visibility:
- Between keyframes 1 and 2, nodes remain hidden.
- At keyframe 2, nodes become visible and stay visible between keyframes 2 and 3.
- At keyframe 3, nodes become hidden again and stay hidden between keyframes 3 and 4.
- Adjust the keyframes to fit your desired timing and sequence.
Fine-Tuning the Flash Effect
The behavior of the Flash animation can be further adjusted using the Easing curve, allowing for smoother or more abrupt transitions between keyframes. This gives greater control over how the animation integrates into your presentation.
Why Use Flash Animation?
Flash is particularly useful for highlighting or de-emphasizing certain molecular components in a controlled manner. For example, if you are presenting a molecular docking study, you might want ligands to appear only in certain frames or specific structural parts of your molecule to stay hidden until their time for discussion.
Because Flash affects visibility rather than transparency, it simplifies visual workflows without clashing with other visual effects that might utilize transparency.
