Added an Extension, but Where Did It Go? A Practical SAMSON Checklist

You add a SAMSON Extension through SAMSON Connect, open SAMSON, and expect to see a new app or editor—yet nothing seems to have changed. That can be frustrating, especially when you are trying to get back to a modeling task. The extension may not be available for your system, may be waiting for a restart, or may provide a tool that appears somewhere other than the Apps or Editors menus.

Use the checks below in order to narrow down what is happening before reinstalling anything.

1. Check platform and version availability

First, open the Extension’s page and look just below its name for the operating systems and SAMSON versions it supports. An Extension added to your account will not necessarily be available for every operating system or every version of SAMSON. If it is not available for your platform, contact the SAMSON team through the SAMSON Connect Forum or by email at contact@samson-connect.net.

Some default Extensions may also depend on your current Plan. The availability information on the Extension page is a useful first check:

2. Restart SAMSON if it was already open

If SAMSON was running when you added the Extension, close and relaunch it. Newly added Extensions are downloaded and installed automatically when SAMSON starts, so an Extension added during an existing session may not be ready until the next launch.

In other words, adding an Extension on SAMSON Connect and seeing it in SAMSON are two separate steps: the account change happens first, and the application checks for and installs the Extension at launch.

3. Look beyond Apps and Editors

Not every Extension adds a visible app or editor. Some provide importers, exporters, visual or interaction models, render presets, or commands instead. So, if you do not see a new item under Home > Apps or in the Editors menu, that alone does not mean the installation failed.

Try Find everything at the top of SAMSON to search for available apps, editors, and commands. For other Extension features, check the Extension description and the guide to extending SAMSON to understand what it provides and where that functionality is used.

4. Use the SAMSON Log to investigate

If the Extension is supported, you have restarted SAMSON, and you still cannot find its functionality, open Interface > Show log. Filter the log for the Extension’s name to check whether SAMSON detected it and whether any issues were reported. Lines related to an Extension that appear in red may indicate a problem.

If you find relevant errors, use the log’s Submit button to send the log to the SAMSON team. Include your user email and a short description of what you expected to happen. That context helps connect the log information to the issue you are seeing.

A quick recap

  • Confirm that the Extension supports your operating system and SAMSON version.
  • Restart SAMSON if it was open when you added the Extension.
  • Search for its functionality rather than assuming every Extension creates an app or editor.
  • Check the SAMSON Log and submit relevant details if the issue persists.
