A molecular model is rarely the end of the work. A colleague may need to inspect a structure, a group may need access to a document, or someone may need to review a cloud job. But sharing can become confusing when account setup, document access, group membership, and job visibility are treated as one problem.
A useful first step is to name the task before choosing where to go. Do you need to access SAMSON Connect, share a document, organize collaborators, or manage access to a job? These are related, but they are not the same workflow. Starting with the right question can save time and help avoid sending collaborators through irrelevant instructions.
Choose the route that matches the work
- Still setting up your account or looking for downloads, extensions, or Marketplace access? Begin with SAMSON Connect. It introduces the website sections and account context.
- Need to publish or access a shared document? Read Share documents. This is the focused guide for sharing documents on SAMSON Connect or downloading shared documents.
- Need to work with profiles, groups, permissions, documents, or jobs? Continue to Collaboration.
If you are setting up collaboration from scratch, the order matters: first understand SAMSON Connect, then follow the document-sharing guidance if documents are involved, and then read about collaboration features. If your account is already in place and your question is about groups or permissions, you can go directly to the collaboration guide.
Make the handoff clearer for everyone
Before sharing, write down what the other person is expected to do. “Please review this structure” is a clearer handoff than simply sending a document with no context. If the task involves a job, say whether the recipient needs to find or review that job. If it involves a team, identify the group or collaborators who need to be involved. These small details help you select the right documentation path and give your collaborators a useful starting point.
It also helps to separate the scientific task from the access task. For example, opening or downloading a shared document is one step; inspecting or editing its contents is another. Once the document is available, the Work with structures guide is the next place to look. For cloud-job workflows, paths, and analysis, use Simulate and analyze. If you are sharing scripted documents or extending workflows with automation, see Automate and extend.
A quick checklist
- Identify the immediate need: account access, a shared document, a group, permissions, or a job.
- Start with the corresponding guide instead of reading every topic at once.
- Tell collaborators what they should review or do with the shared work.
- After they have access, point them to the guide for the next scientific or technical task.
This simple separation makes collaboration easier to explain: first find the right access workflow, then guide the recipient toward the work itself. For the full overview and recommended reading paths, learn more in Share and collaborate.
