One of the recurring frustrations for molecular modelers is trying to collaborate efficiently with peers. Whether you’re sharing molecular designs, simulation input files, or results with a colleague, supervisor, or an entire team, the typical exchange happens over long email threads or inconsistent cloud storage systems. This often leads to confusion about versions, loss of access, or cluttered inboxes.
If this sounds familiar, there’s a more effective approach: sharing documents via SAMSON Connect. SAMSON provides a dedicated method for uploading and managing molecular documents with tailored permissions, integrated directly into your molecular modeling workflow.

What can you share?
On SAMSON Connect, a “document” can be any molecular design file or project you’re working on in SAMSON. There’s no limit to the number of documents you can upload, though available storage will depend on your plan. These documents can include structures, simulations, annotation layers, and links to related jobs or models.
Simple publishing, precise control
To share a document, simply open your project in SAMSON and go to Home > Publish. A dialog will appear prompting you to name your document, add a description, and, most importantly, define its visibility:
- Public: Accessible by everyone, though edits still require permission.
- Hidden: Only accessible to users with the link.
- Restricted: You control exactly who can see and edit the file.

Organized management of shared content
Once published, documents become visible in your account on SAMSON Connect under the “Documents” section in your user menu. From there, you can manage:
- Who has access to each document
- What rights they have (read, edit)
- Document metadata such as titles, tags, and descriptions

Grant access to individuals or groups
Rather than sharing links individually, you can also give document access to entire groups. These can be set up in advance for collaborations, research departments, or courses. This way, access management becomes a matter of a few clicks:

Why this matters
Using SAMSON Connect’s document sharing system helps maintain consistency, ensures up-to-date access, and aligns tightly with molecular research workflows. No more forgetting to attach the right file version or worrying whether a collaborator has the right viewer for a format. Everything is integrated within an environment designed for molecular design.
