Managing Shared Molecular Files with Precision on SAMSON Connect

Collaborative molecular modeling often means sharing simulation results, structural models, and analysis documents with colleagues, collaborators, or students. But how do you ensure your work is shared securely, with the right level of access and control?

SAMSON Connect offers a practical way to manage and share your molecular documents with precision, avoiding the common pitfalls of cluttered inboxes, outdated attachments, or risky file sharing. Whether you want your content to be completely public, accessible only with a link, or visible only to specific users or groups, you have full control over your data’s reach.

Understand Document Visibility

When uploading a document on SAMSON Connect, you can choose your visibility level:

  • Public: Everyone can use the document, but editing still requires explicit access rights.
  • Hidden: Only people with the direct link can access the document.
  • Restricted: Access must be granted manually. Ideal for confidential work.

To upload a document, go to Home > Publish in SAMSON and fill in the required info: title, description, and visibility level.

Granting Access: Users or Groups

Once your document is uploaded, you can go to your User menu > Documents page on SAMSON Connect to manage sharing settings.

If you are the owner or an assigned editor, you can:

  • Edit document name, description, and visibility
  • Grant access to individual users by username or email
  • Grant access to entire user groups (e.g., your lab)

This setup is especially helpful when working on sensitive structural biology projects or sharing cloud-generated results (e.g., AlphaFold models or GROMACS simulations) with selected collaborators.

Tracking and Modifying Your Shared Documents

You can keep track of documents shared with you and those you’ve shared from the same dashboard:

When Sharing Becomes Seamless

This document sharing system helps molecular modelers:

  • Maintain a single source of truth for each molecule, model or simulation result
  • Reduce back-and-forth emails with file updates
  • Ensure consistent access control across collaborators
