One of the challenges molecular modelers face is adapting their software tools to specific workflows or advanced methodologies. You often find yourself searching for plugins, modifying code, or working across multiple platforms just to perform one type of simulation or visualization.
SAMSON Extensions address this challenge directly by offering a modular, expandable environment through an integrated marketplace on SAMSON Connect. In this post, we’ll explore how you can browse, try, add, or remove extensions from your SAMSON installation in just a few clicks—and why this flexibility can make your molecular modeling work more efficient and enjoyable.
What’s a SAMSON Extension?
SAMSON Extensions are modular add-ons that provide specific capabilities inside the SAMSON platform. They might offer new modeling tools, visualization styles, simulation engines, AI-based predictions, or compatibility with third-party file formats. This makes it easier to adapt SAMSON to your project, whether you’re a biologist, chemist, or materials scientist.
Where to Find Them
Head over to the SAMSON Connect Marketplace. You’ll find a catalog of extensions with search and filter features. Each extension has a dedicated page with:
- A description
- Author information
- Supported operating systems (Windows, Linux, Mac)
- Version history
- Compatibility with SAMSON versions

Free, Subscribed, and Trial Extensions
Many extensions are available for free. If you’re signed in, you’ll see an Add button. Click it, and the next time you restart SAMSON, the extension will download and install automatically.

Try Before You Subscribe
Some extensions use a subscription model. Fortunately, you can request a trial—no credit card required. Just click Request trial on the extension’s page.

Academic Access
If you’re affiliated with an academic institution, many paid extensions are available through an academic plan. Click Subscribe to choose a plan.

Managing Your Extensions
To remove an extension, go to your account on SAMSON Connect, click Marketplace or go to Account > Settings > View my extensions. Then hover over the Added button – it will change to Remove.

Subscriptions Overview
Visit Account > Settings > View my subscriptions to manage your active subscriptions and billing plan.

Using extensions effectively reduces the time spent switching between tools and increases the reproducibility of your molecular designs or simulations. Over time, many researchers end up creating a consistent, modular workspace tailored to their daily needs.
