Managing tools in a molecular modeling platform can often be time-consuming. Whether you’re trying to test a new analysis method or need to streamline your modeling interface, the ability to easily add or remove functionality matters. In SAMSON, these tools are delivered as SAMSON Extensions, which you can manage through SAMSON Connect. Let’s walk through how to manage these modules effectively.
What are SAMSON Extensions?
SAMSON Extensions are modules that enhance the functionality of the SAMSON Platform. They range from molecular modeling tools to simulation engines, visualization enhancements, and cloud-based computation plugins. Some are available freely, while others are accessible via subscription or trial.
Browsing the Marketplace
To explore available extensions, go to the Marketplace section of SAMSON Connect. This space showcases all current SAMSON Extensions available for your version of SAMSON. Each extension’s page provides a detailed description, supported platforms, and compatibility information.

Installing Free Extensions
Once you find a free extension you’d like to try, simply make sure you’re signed into your SAMSON Connect account. Click the Add button. This marks the extension as “Added”.

Next time you restart SAMSON, the extension will be downloaded and installed automatically.
Trying and Subscribing to Paid Extensions
Some extensions are available by subscription. If you’re not ready to commit, you can click the Request trial button—no credit card required. During the trial, the extension is marked as “Trying”.

To subscribe, choose a monthly or yearly plan. Academic pricing may apply if your account status qualifies.

Once subscribed, the extension will be marked as “Subscribed”:

Removing Extensions
If you no longer need a particular extension, you can remove it directly from the Marketplace or from your Account Settings. Hover over the Added button, which turns into Remove. Click it, and the extension will be removed after you restart SAMSON.

Managing Subscriptions
To view or cancel subscriptions, navigate to Account > Settings > View my subscriptions. This page lets you manage what you’re currently paying for or trying.

Why This Matters
With hybrid workflows that move between simulation, modeling, machine learning, and data visualization, modularity becomes essential. The SAMSON Extensions system helps you customize your environment for the task at hand—without being stuck with unused tools or long-term subscriptions.
