Adding, Trying, and Removing SAMSON Extensions Without the Guesswork

For molecular modelers using the SAMSON platform, having access to a wide range of features often means managing and switching between dozens of SAMSON Extensions. Whether you’re adding functionality, evaluating a method, or cleaning up your setup, being able to easily manage your extensions can be essential for working efficiently.

Fortunately, SAMSON Connect makes it straightforward to add, try, subscribe to, or remove extensions without wasting time figuring out if something is compatible or redundant. This blog post walks you through the process with examples straight from the user documentation—so that you don’t have to look it up every time.

Add Free Extensions in One Click

Once signed in at SAMSON Connect, you can browse the SAMSON Extension Marketplace. If a module is freely available under your plan, you will see an “Add” button next to it:

Clicking this button adds the extension to your installation. It will now appear as “Added” in your account and will be automatically installed the next time you restart SAMSON.

Try Before You Subscribe

If you’re considering an extension that isn’t freely available, SAMSON Connect allows you to request a free trial—no credit card required. Just click the “Request trial” button:

Request trial

While the extension is in trial mode, it appears as “Trying” on your list:

This is especially helpful when testing new workflows or evaluating new developments in areas such as molecular docking, dynamics, or machine learning integration.

Subscribe as Needed—Including Academic Plans

If an extension proves useful beyond its trial, users can choose to subscribe. Many extensions offer monthly, yearly, or academic plans:

Subscribed extensions are clearly marked as “Subscribed” in your list.

Clean Up With Confidence: Removing Extensions

To remove an extension, head to your account page under Account > Settings > View my extensions, locate the one you want to remove, and hover over the “Added” button—it will turn into a “Remove” button:

After the next SAMSON restart, the extension will be removed automatically. You can always re-add it later from your extensions list.

Track and Manage Subscriptions Easily

If you manage multiple paid extensions, you’ll find the “View my subscriptions” section essential. It gives you a snapshot of all active subscriptions and makes billing management simple:

Whether you’re trying a new modeling technique or keeping your software footprint clean, managing your SAMSON Extensions is uncomplicated and transparent.
