For molecular modelers, managing the visibility of molecules or simulation stages when presenting complex structures and processes can be challenging. Whether you’re showcasing a transition or emphasizing key changes within a molecular system, an intuitive and clear visualization tool can make all the difference. Enter the Flash animation in SAMSON, designed to seamlessly handle these transitions.
The Flash animation effect ensures that specific nodes (representing molecular entities or other relevant data) appear at one keyframe and disappear at another. This effect is achieved through toggling node visibility rather than altering transparency, providing a clean and efficient way to structure animations in molecular modeling workflows.
How to Use Flash Animation in SAMSON
Getting started with Flash animations is straightforward. Below are the steps to integrate and use this effect:
- Select the nodes you want to control with the Flash animation.
- In the Animation panel of the Animator, double-click on the Flash animation effect to add it.
This effect comes with four built-in keyframes:
- Between keyframes 1 and 2, the selected nodes remain hidden.
- At keyframe 2, the nodes become visible, and they stay visible between keyframes 2 and 3.
- At keyframe 3, the nodes become hidden again and remain hidden between keyframes 3 and 4.
The keyframes can be moved along the animation timeline to align with your specific presentation needs. Additionally, the Easing curve can be used to fine-tune how parameters are interpolated between keyframes, offering smooth transitions for a polished effect.

A Practical Visualization Solution
The Flash animation effect is ideal for scenarios where you need to:
- Focus on specific molecules or regions of interest within a complex model.
- Present sequential or time-dependent molecular changes clearly.
- Create compelling presentations for colleagues, collaborators, or publication materials.
Instead of manually toggling visibility settings or struggling with complex animations, Flash automates this process and keeps your workflow efficient and professional.
