Sharing a molecular model should make collaboration easier—not leave colleagues wondering which file to use, or whether they can open it. A useful handoff depends on two things: publishing the right document and choosing visibility that fits the people who need it. SAMSON Connect lets you publish documents from SAMSON and manage access to them.
Choose access before you share
When you publish a document, SAMSON asks you to provide its name and description and select a visibility option. The choice determines who can use the document:
- Public: everyone can use the document, while editing requires access rights.
- Hidden: anyone with the link can use the document, while editing requires access rights.
- Restricted: access rights are required to use or edit the document.
Think about the intended audience before choosing. If the document should be discoverable and usable by everyone, Public is the relevant option. If you want to share it with people who have its link, consider Hidden. If using the document itself should require access rights, choose Restricted. In all cases, note the difference between permission to use a document and permission to edit it: Public and Hidden documents still require access rights for editing.
These distinctions help avoid a common collaboration snag: sending a link without being clear about what recipients can do with it. A brief description can also help others understand what they are opening. Before publishing, check that the document name and description identify it clearly and that the visibility matches your intended audience.
Publish from SAMSON
In SAMSON, select Home > Publish. In the dialog, enter the document name and description, then choose its visibility. Select Publish document to share it on SAMSON Connect. The document link is provided in the same window, so you can copy it for the people who need it.

Keep the link together with a short note about the document and its intended use. That simple context can make a handoff clearer, especially when several people are coordinating around shared molecular work. If access needs change later, you can manage shared documents from your SAMSON Connect account.
Download a shared document
To bring a document shared through SAMSON Connect into SAMSON, select Home > Download. This provides a direct route from a shared document to your working environment.

You can access and manage documents you have shared, as well as documents shared with you, through your SAMSON Connect account. For guidance on access rights, groups, and managing shared documents, continue to the Collaboration documentation.
