If you’re a molecular modeler using SAMSON, chances are you’ve encountered various SAMSON Extensions—modules that enhance your modeling capabilities. But as your workflow evolves, managing these extensions can become a challenge: Which are free? How do I try a paid one without a credit card? How do I uninstall something I no longer need?
Fortunately, SAMSON Connect offers a structured and transparent way to manage your extensions. Here’s how to make the most of it.
Adding Extensions
You can browse available modules in the Marketplace. If you’re signed in and an extension is freely available, simply click the Add button. SAMSON will mark that extension as “Added” and install it the next time you restart.

After restarting, the extension becomes part of your installation. You’ll see it listed under your user account for easy access.
Trying Extensions
Not sure if that paid extension fits your needs? Click Request trial. No credit card is required. During the trial period, the extension is marked with a “Trying” status in your account. It’s a hands-on way to explore advanced features without initial commitment.

This is helpful for evaluating specific functionality on your real projects. You can then decide whether it’s worth subscribing to.

Subscribing to Extensions
If an extension proves useful, you can subscribe to it monthly or yearly. Academic plans are also available for eligible users. Once subscribed, the extension will be marked as “Subscribed.”

Removing Extensions
Need to declutter or stop using an extension? Head to Marketplace or Account > Settings > View my extensions. Hover over the Added button—once it changes to Remove, click it. Then, restart SAMSON to complete the removal process.

If you’ve subscribed to an extension, manage your active subscriptions under Account > Settings > View my subscriptions. You’ll land on the My Subscriptions page and can cancel plans if needed.

Why It Matters
Being able to flexibly manage extensions means you can tailor your SAMSON experience around ongoing project needs, team feedback, or budget constraints. Whether you’re prototyping a drug compound, simulating protein interactions, or visualizing complex assemblies, there’s probably an extension that improves your workflow.
