Added an Extension, but Can’t Find It? A Practical SAMSON Checklist

You add an extension through SAMSON Connect, open SAMSON, and then… nothing seems to have changed. It’s a common point of confusion: an extension may be installed without appearing as a new app or editor, or it may not be available for your operating system or SAMSON version. A few checks can help you work out which situation you’re facing.

Use this checklist in order. It starts with the simplest explanations and moves toward evidence you can use to troubleshoot a real installation problem.

1. Check platform and version compatibility

First, open the extension’s page on SAMSON Connect and look beneath its name for availability information. Confirm that it supports both your operating system and the version of SAMSON you’re running. An extension that is unavailable for your platform won’t appear simply because you added it to your account.

Some default extensions may also depend on your current plan. If the extension is not listed as available for your operating system, contact the SAMSON team through the SAMSON Connect Forum or by email at contact@samson-connect.net.

2. Restart SAMSON after adding the extension

If SAMSON was already running when you added the extension, close and relaunch it. Newly added extensions are downloaded from SAMSON Connect and installed when SAMSON launches. In other words, adding an extension while the application is open does not necessarily make it available immediately in that session.

On launch, SAMSON also checks for extension updates and installs them automatically. Extension updates are provided for the latest version of SAMSON, so keeping SAMSON up to date can matter when you’re trying to use a newer extension.

3. Look for what the extension actually provides

An extension is not always a new button or a standalone app. Some extensions provide apps, which you can find under Home > Apps. Others provide editors, available in the editors menu on the left side of the viewport. But not every extension includes either of these.

An extension might instead add an importer or exporter, a visual or interaction model, a render preset, a command, or another capability. If you’re expecting an app or editor that the extension does not provide, the installation may be working correctly—the feature is simply in a different part of SAMSON.

Try Find everything at the top of SAMSON to search for apps, editors, and commands. For other extension features, check the extension’s description and the Extending SAMSON guide.

4. Use the SAMSON Log to check what happened

If the extension should be compatible and you have restarted SAMSON, open Interface > Show log. Filter the log for the extension’s name. The entries can help you determine whether SAMSON detected the extension and whether an issue occurred during loading. Lines corresponding to an extension problem are colored red.

If the log shows a problem, use the Submit button to send it to the SAMSON team. Include your user email and a short description of what you expected to happen. That context makes the log more useful than a screenshot of an empty menu: it tells support which extension you added and what you were looking for.

A quick diagnosis

  • Not supported on your OS or SAMSON version? Check the extension’s availability information.
  • Added it while SAMSON was open? Restart SAMSON so it can download and install the extension.
  • Installed, but no new app or editor? Check the extension description; it may provide a different type of feature.
  • Still not working? Filter the SAMSON Log, look for red entries, and submit the log with a brief explanation.
