For molecular modelers, collaboration is essential: sharing data efficiently can accelerate discoveries, foster partnerships, and enhance productivity. But, controlling access rights and securing sensitive information can also be a challenge. If you’ve struggled with sharing molecular design documents in ways that are easy and secure, SAMSON Connect provides tools to address these needs. Here’s an overview of how SAMSON Connect makes document sharing practical and efficient, tailored specifically for the workflows of molecular design professionals.
Why Managing Documents Matters for Molecular Modelers
Sharing molecular models, simulations, or experimental results should be straightforward, but it’s often bogged down by issues such as limits on file sizes, accidental exposure of sensitive data, or labor-intensive permission setups. SAMSON Connect solves these pain points by offering a structured environment for document sharing, with robust permission settings.
Uploading and Publishing a Document
In SAMSON, you can quickly upload documents and manage their visibility. Here’s how to get started:
1. In the SAMSON interface, click Home > Publish to prepare your document for sharing.
2. In the publishing dialog window:
- Enter a name for the document.
- Add a brief description of its contents.
- Choose the document visibility level:
- Public – Accessible to everyone, but editing is protected by access rights.
- Hidden – Users need a direct link to access, and editing still requires permission.
- Restricted – Both viewing and editing require specific access permissions.
Once ready, click Publish Document to confirm. The document will now be listed in the Documents section of SAMSON Connect, and you’ll receive a shareable link for easy collaboration.

Advanced Permissions: Control Over Who Sees (and Edits) Your Data
In collaborative projects, granular control over document access is crucial. SAMSON offers tools to manage permissions for users or groups adeptly.
- Editing Visibility: If you are the document owner, you can toggle between Public, Hidden, and Restricted access settings to adapt to the sensitivity of your data.
- Granting Access: Share documents directly with precise users or entire groups. For example, you might invite your research group while keeping sensitive details hidden from external collaborators.

Need to add access for someone who doesn’t yet have a SAMSON account? No problem – simply enter their email address in the dialog box and click Add. They can join when they’re ready!
Where to Find and Manage Shared Files
All the published documents you own, as well as those shared with you, are conveniently located under the Documents tab in your user menu. As a document owner, you have complete control over its settings, ensuring flexibility and security at all stages of your project.

How SAMSON Streamlines Collaborative Molecular Design
Whether you’re sharing datasets from GROMACS simulations, theoretical models from AlphaFold, or collaborative reports, SAMSON Connect gives you a centralized, efficient, and secure way to manage your project documentation. It simplifies data management so you can focus on science rather than logistics.
