Creating visually engaging molecular presentations often involves switching between different visual backgrounds smoothly. Whether you’re showcasing molecular dynamics or delivering a polished presentation, transitions between backgrounds can significantly elevate your storytelling. In SAMSON, the Set background animation offers an easy way to incorporate seamless background transitions into your molecular design projects.
What Can You Do with the Set Background Animation?
The Set background animation allows users to set a background image at specific keyframes and automatically generates smooth transitions between them. For instance, you can present information overlays, highlight data, or simply enhance the aesthetic of your project by introducing background animations like slides or images.
Background images can be scaled to fully contain the frame or cover it. Note that choosing the “cover” setting might crop parts of the image along the largest side. This flexibility ensures you can adapt visuals to match your presentation needs.
How to Add and Customize It
Let’s look at how you can easily add and tweak background animations in SAMSON:
- Open the Animation panel within the Animator.
- Double-click on the Set background animation effect. The begin keyframe will automatically be placed at the current frame.
- If needed, adjust the positions of the keyframes to control when backgrounds appear or transition in your animation timeline.
The animation includes two keyframes by default:
- Keyframe 1: Sets the specified background.
- Keyframe 2: Marks when another Set background animation begins. Interpolations between the two backgrounds occur automatically.
These interpolations are useful for producing flowing transitions between frames without requiring additional manual input.
Fine-Tuning with the Easing Curve
SAMSON gives users additional control over how backgrounds transition by letting you modify the easing curve. The easing curve controls the smoothness and timing of interpolations between keyframes.
To adjust it, open the Inspector panel and experiment with different curve configurations. You’ll instantly see how these changes influence your animation, making it a powerful tool for refined adjustments.

Why It Matters
When presenting complex molecular structures, data, or simulations, poor transitions between visuals can distract viewers from your message. Smooth, carefully designed transitions not only maintain audience focus but also add professionalism to your work. Whether you’re portraying molecular pathways or switching between datasets, Set background animations provide the polish your storytelling needs.
