Collaboration is at the heart of modern molecular modeling, and SAMSON provides powerful tools to help you work efficiently with your colleagues. One particularly effective feature is the ability to create and manage groups, making it easier than ever to share resources, documents, jobs, and more. If you’ve been struggling to organize collaborative projects, SAMSON groups could be the solution you’ve needed.
Why Groups Can Simplify Your Workflow
Managing multiple team members, roles, and permissions on collaborative modeling projects can be a challenge. How do you ensure everyone has the correct access? How can you make collaboration smooth without compromising security?
SAMSON allows you to create an unlimited number of groups—public or private—so you can organize your team around specific projects or tasks. With groups, you can share resources selectively, keep communications organized, and ensure that everyone has the right level of access at the right time.
How to Get Started with SAMSON Groups
To create or manage a group, go to your Groups menu on SAMSON Connect. From here, you can:
- Create new public or private groups.
- Invite team members based on their username, full name, or email address.
- Edit group settings, such as visibility and membership rules.

Granular Control Over Group Settings
Once you’ve created a group, managing roles and access is straightforward. If you’re a group owner, you can:
- Change group visibility (whether it’s public or private).
- Control how members join—such as by invitation only.
- Manage group membership, including assigning roles like editors or viewers.

Inviting Team Members
Adding team members has never been easier. Enter their username, email, or full name, and they’ll receive an invitation to join the group. If they don’t have a SAMSON account yet, you can send invitations via email.

What Can You Share in a Group?
SAMSON’s group functionality allows you to share:
- Documents: Fine-tune sharing permissions to ensure the right people have access.
- Jobs: Grants team members the proper visibility for computational jobs like AlphaFold or GROMACS.
- Extensions: Easily distribute useful tools to your group members.
Groups in SAMSON are ideal for ensuring that each project team has all the tools they need to succeed, in a well-organized way.
