For molecular modelers who want to customize and expand their software capabilities, managing extensions can sometimes feel overwhelming. SAMSON makes this process significantly easier with its Marketplace and built-in extension management tools. Here’s a step-by-step guide to understand and maximize the use of SAMSON Extensions.
The Marketplace: Your Gateway to New Functionality
The SAMSON Extensions Marketplace is your one-stop shop for expanding the capabilities of SAMSON. Extensions are modular tools that enhance the platform for specific tasks, such as molecular simulations, structural analysis, and visualization. You’ll find both free and subscription-based extensions, and the process to add them to your setup is streamlined.

To browse the Marketplace, simply log in to your SAMSON Connect account. Once there, you can explore the available extensions and click on any of them to access detailed information, including descriptions, supported operating systems (Windows, Linux, Mac), and compatibility with SAMSON versions.
Adding Free Extensions
If you find a free extension you’d like to use, it’s easy to add it. While signed into your SAMSON account, locate the extension in the Marketplace and click the Add button. The extension will then be marked as “Added.” Restart SAMSON, and the platform will automatically download and integrate the extension into your setup.

Trying and Subscribing to Extensions
For extensions available through a subscription, SAMSON allows you to take them for a trial run without entering credit card details. Simply click the Request trial button, and the extension will be marked as “Trying.” Once you’re ready to commit, you can subscribe to the monthly, yearly, or academic plan.

After subscribing, the extension will be labeled as “Subscribed,” and you can manage your subscriptions from your account settings on SAMSON Connect.

Removing and Managing Extensions
If you want to remove an extension, go to Account > Settings > View my extensions. Hover over the “Added” button, which will change to “Remove,” and click it. Restart SAMSON to complete the process. Removed extensions will still be listed under “View my extensions” for easy reinstallation if needed.

Beyond Extensions
Extensions are only one part of SAMSON’s flexibility. The platform’s Marketplace, coupled with cloud-based collaboration tools, provides a powerful environment for molecular modeling and simulation. By leveraging extensions, you can tailor SAMSON to fit your unique research or development needs seamlessly.
