What is the Pulse Animation?

The Pulse animation allows designated nodes to progressively appear and disappear in a seamless cycle. This animation is perfect for components with transparency attributes, such as structural models, visual models, meshes, and labels. By seamlessly alternating between visibility levels, Pulse enhances visual storytelling in molecular projects and highlights specific structures to emphasize key insights.

Bring It to Life: Creating Your First Pulse Animation

To use the Pulse animation, follow these simple steps:

  1. Select the node or nodes you want to apply the effect to. This could include any object with a transparency attribute.
  2. Open the Animation Panel from the Animator section within SAMSON.
  3. Double-click on the Pulse animation to add it to the selected nodes.

Now your animation will automatically create five keyframes with the following progression:

  • Keyframes 1–2: The nodes remain fully transparent.
  • Keyframes 2–3: Transparency decreases, making the nodes progressively more visible.
  • Keyframe 3: The nodes reach full opacity (completely visible).
  • Keyframes 3–4: Transparency increases, causing the nodes to fade away again.
  • Keyframes 4–5: The nodes return to full transparency.

Not satisfied with how the timing works for your project? No problem! Keyframes can easily be shifted along the timeline using the Animator to better suit your needs.

Fine-Tuning the Effect: Easing Curves

Beyond just applying the Pulse animation, you can customize the behavior even further by tweaking interpolation parameters. Modify the easing curve in the Inspector to control how the transitions occur between one transparency level and the next.
