Making Atoms Vanish: Conceal Atoms Animation Explained

Molecular modeling often requires presenting complex structures in a simplified and clear way. Whether you are creating presentations, educational content, or simulations, managing atom visibility is critical to guiding viewers’ focus. One valuable feature in the SAMSON platform for this is the ‘Conceal Atoms’ animation, designed to help nodes (atoms and bonds) progressively disappear between frames.

Why Concealing Atoms is Useful

Imagine you’re sharing a dynamic view of a molecular process, but you need to highlight specific zones without creating visual clutter. The ‘Conceal Atoms’ animation allows you to remove unnecessary atoms and bonds in a graceful, step-by-step manner. This ensures a smooth transition between views, resulting in a more engaging and easier-to-follow presentation.

How to Use the ‘Conceal Atoms’ Animation

Using the ‘Conceal Atoms’ animation is intuitive. Follow these steps to bring it into your workflow:

  • Identify the atoms and bonds to conceal. Select the components you want to disappear progressively.
  • Enable the animation: Simply double-click on the ‘Conceal Atoms’ animation effect inside the Animation panel located in SAMSON’s Animator.

How the Animation Works

The animation comprises four keyframes:

  • From keyframe 1 to keyframe 2: All selected atoms and bonds are fully visible.
  • From keyframe 2 to keyframe 3: Atoms and bonds progressively vanish in the order specified by your selection.
  • From keyframe 3 to keyframe 4: All the selected atoms and bonds are completely hidden.

Note that these keyframes can be moved around as needed, offering full control over the timing of your animation. You can also refine how parameters evolve between frames by tweaking the Easing curve, ensuring smooth and tailored transitions.
