Mastering Extensions in SAMSON: Simplify Molecular Modeling with Ease

For molecular modelers, the ability to enhance and tailor their tools to specific research needs is a great asset. The SAMSON platform provides an effective solution for this through its robust SAMSON Extensions system. Whether you’re adding extensions to boost functionality or removing unused ones to streamline your setup, SAMSON simplifies the process so you can focus on what truly matters: your molecular modeling challenges.

What Are SAMSON Extensions?

SAMSON Extensions are individual modules that expand the functionalities of the SAMSON platform to meet specific needs. They allow you to integrate cutting-edge tools, workflows, or features such as simulations, visualization techniques, or data analysis tools. Available via the SAMSON Connect Marketplace, some extensions are freely accessible, while others might require a subscription.

How to Add and Manage Extensions

Adding an extension is straightforward. After signing into your SAMSON Connect account and accessing the Marketplace, you can browse the list of available extensions. When you find one that fits your needs:

  • If it’s free: Click the Add button, and the extension will be marked as “Added.” Restart SAMSON, and the extension will be automatically downloaded and installed.
  • If it requires a subscription: You may Request a trial to try the extension for a limited period without providing payment information. Alternatively, select a plan (monthly, yearly, or academic) and subscribe by clicking the Subscribe button.

Extensions available through subscriptions will show status indicators such as “Trying” during a trial or “Subscribed” when activated.

Removing Extensions

If you need to declutter your setup, removing unwanted extensions is just as simple:

  1. Go to the Marketplace or visit your account settings (Account > Settings > View my extensions).
  2. Locate the extension you’d like to remove and open its details page.
  3. Hover over the Added button, which will change to Remove, and click on it.

Remove a free SAMSON Extension

Once removed, the extension will no longer be available in your SAMSON installation. However, you can always add it back later if needed by visiting the “View my extensions” section on SAMSON Connect.

Subscriptions Management

For subscribed extensions, you can view and manage your plans under Account > Settings > View my subscriptions. This section provides an overview of your active subscriptions and allows you to make adjustments or cancellations as needed. Restarting SAMSON will apply any changes to your subscriptions or installed extensions.
