Yet, reversing a specific path or trajectory while maintaining synchronization across multiple paths can pose challenges. Thankfully, SAMSON provides a straightforward solution: the Play reverse path animation. In this blog post, we'll explore how you can use this feature to improve your molecular animations.

What is the Play Reverse Path Animation?

The Play reverse path animation allows you to play either a single path or multiple synchronized paths between two frames in reverse. This can help you revisit trajectories, cycle through conformations backward, or highlight interesting movement patterns in your molecules.

In SAMSON, paths are stored as nodes that represent trajectories between conformations or frames, so any trajectory can be utilized for this animation. Importantly, if the animation frames and the path frames differ in number, SAMSON smooths the path for a seamless transition—though this feature can also be turned off if needed.

Adding a Reverse Path Animation

To get started, select the path or paths that you want to animate. Then, head to the Animation panel within the Animator, and double-click on the Play reverse path animation effect to apply it.

The animation will reverse the path between two keyframes. You retain full flexibility—keyframes can still be adjusted and repositioned as needed. Pro Tip: Smooth transitions can be achieved by taking advantage of the Inspector, where you can tweak the animation’s parameters for optimal results.

Customizing the Animation

SAMSON offers you creative control over how the animation plays out, thanks to features like the Easing curve. This allows you to adjust how parameters are interpolated between frames, ensuring smooth and natural-looking animations tailored to your exact requirements.
