If you are a molecular modeler, you’ve likely faced challenges in visually presenting your simulations. Conveying key insights to colleagues or clients is not just about doing rigorous research – it’s about making it visually clear and compelling! The Disappear animation in SAMSON can be a powerful solution to this pain. Whether you’re transitioning between model states or progressively fading out elements for better focus, understanding how to use the Disappear animation can transform your visual storytelling.
What Is the Disappear Animation?
The Disappear animation allows selected nodes in your molecular models to gradually become more transparent until they disappear entirely. This is particularly helpful for nodes with a transparency attribute, like structural models, visual models, meshes, and labels. For nodes lacking a transparency attribute, the Disappear animation behaves much like the Hide animation.
It’s a particularly useful tool when you want to emphasize parts of your model, smooth transitions, or step-by-step unveil the structure intricacies in presentations or videos.
How to Add the Disappear Effect to Nodes
Using the Disappear animation in SAMSON is straightforward:
- Select the nodes. Identify the parts of your model (like meshes or structural models) that you want to fade out progressively.
- Add the animation. Open the Animation panel in the Animator. Then, double-click the Disappear effect to apply it to the chosen nodes.
This animation uses four keyframes to achieve a smooth disappearance:
- Between keyframes 1 and 2, the nodes remain fully opaque.
- Between keyframes 2 and 3, the nodes progressively increase transparency – this is where the “disappear” magic happens!
- Between keyframes 3 and 4, the nodes are entirely transparent.
Simply move these keyframes within the Animator to control the timing and pace of the animation effect.
Tip: Keyframes can always be adjusted to fit your specific presentation needs and pacing. Flexibility is key in crafting your ideal visual sequence!
Advanced Customization with the Easing Curve
Want even more control over how the Disappear animation looks? You can modify the parameters between keyframes using the Easing curve. This allows you to adjust the progression of transparency for smoother or more dynamic transitions.
Why Choose Disappear Animation?
The Disappear animation isn’t just about making nodes fade away – it’s a tool to control focus in your molecular designs. Use it to guide your audience’s attention, simplify complex visualizations, or better highlight features of immense importance. And remember, this is one in a family of animations offered by SAMSON, alongside Appear, Flash, Pulse, and more.

This example showcases how you can visually communicate transitions in a way that both captivates and clarifies your results.
