Working on complex molecular design scenarios can be challenging, especially when making iterative changes to your models. Have you ever wished for a tool that allows you to retrace your steps or redo past actions without worry? SAMSON simplifies this challenge with its robust Undo and Redo feature integrated into its History management system.
Why Is Undo and Redo Important?
In molecular modeling, every detail matters. A single misplaced operation can affect the accuracy of your simulations or models significantly. Undo and Redo functionalities help you confidently explore different design pathways, experiment without fear, and recover from accidental mistakes. This workflow flexibility is invaluable, whether you are a beginner or an experienced molecular designer.
How Does It Work?
Each document in SAMSON maintains its own unique history. This means the platform keeps track of every action you perform within the document. By pulling up the History view, you can comprehensively navigate through previous states of your document and selectively undo or redo actions.
Accessing the History View
- Windows/Linux: Use the
Ctrl + 3shortcut or go to Interface > History. - Mac: Use the
Cmd + 3shortcut or the same menu pathway.

Undo and Redo Fundamentals
Once the History view is open, you can:
- Traverse through your actions simply by clicking on individual operations within the list, visualizing each earlier or later state.
- Use the Edit menu for quicker Undo (
Ctrl + ZorCmd + Z) and Redo (Ctrl + YorCmd + Y) commands. These shortcuts come in handy for quick adjustments.
A Few Notes for Perfect Workflow
Note
While the Undo and Redo feature covers most operations, keep in mind that not all actions are undoable. If a non-undoable operation is performed between two undoable actions, it may affect your ability to recover previous states.

Explore Without Limits
As a molecular designer, having the freedom to experiment with confidence is critical. SAMSON’s interactive undo and redo capabilities empower you to focus on creativity and precision without fear of losing work or making irreversible changes. Coupled with the visual representation in the History view, it becomes easier than ever to analyze and refine your molecular projects state-by-state.
