When working on molecular modeling, presenting your data effectively can be as crucial as the models themselves. One common challenge is making elements appear or disappear dynamically to emphasize key insights or processes. With SAMSON’s Flash animation, you can achieve this seamlessly. Let’s delve into how the Flash animation can enhance your molecular presentations.
What Does the Flash Animation Do?
The Flash animation is designed to control the visibility of nodes in your model. It makes the nodes appear at the beginning of a specified keyframe and disappear at the end keyframe. Importantly, this is managed through visibility settings, not transparency, which can simplify your animations and improve clarity where transparency might add to visual noise.
How to Add the Flash Animation
Adding the Flash animation to your molecular model is straightforward:
- Select the nodes you’d like to show and hide during the animation.
- Open the Animation panel (part of the Animator) and double-click on the Flash animation effect.
For this animation, there are 4 keyframes to manage:
- Keyframes 1 to 2: Nodes are hidden.
- Keyframe 2: Nodes become visible.
- Keyframes 2 to 3: Nodes remain visible.
- Keyframe 3: Nodes become hidden again.
- Keyframes 3 to 4: Nodes remain hidden.
You can freely adjust the position of these keyframes to achieve the desired timing for your animations.
Customizing Animation Properties
One of the strengths of SAMSON is its attention to detail, and the Flash animation is no exception. After applying the animation, you can use the Easing curve to refine how the animation parameters transition between frames. This allows you to create animations that feel smooth, natural, or even emphasize sudden movements, depending on your presentation’s needs.

A Study in Simplicity
The Flash animation strikes a perfect balance between simplicity and utility. By focusing on visibility rather than transparency, it eliminates unnecessary complexity while still enabling effective storytelling. Whether you’re highlighting specific molecular interactions, processes, or structures, Flash ensures your audience sees exactly what you want them to see, when you want them to see it.
