Make the Most of SAMSON with Extensions
For molecular modelers, efficiency and flexibility are paramount. Whether working on designing new molecules, simulating environments, or analyzing interactions, your workflow often depends on the right tools. This is where the SAMSON molecular design platform shines, thanks to its versatile extensions. However, knowing how to efficiently add, manage, and use these extensions can save you time and effort. Let’s explore how SAMSON helps you streamline this process.
Why Use Extensions?
SAMSON Extensions are modular tools that expand the platform’s functionality, catering to specific tasks like quantum mechanics computations, molecular simulations, and visualization enhancements. Instead of requiring multiple standalone programs, SAMSON allows you to build a robust personalized toolset directly in its ecosystem. With extensions, you can adapt SAMSON to meet your specific project needs while avoiding unnecessary complexity.
Adding Extensions in a Few Clicks
Accessing new SAMSON Extensions is straightforward. Visit the Marketplace on SAMSON Connect to explore available extensions. These are categorized into free tools, tools included in your SAMSON plan, and subscription-based options. For freely available extensions, logged-in users can simply click the Add button to incorporate them into their SAMSON installation:

Once you’ve selected an extension, restart SAMSON to automatically download and install it. Extensions marked as “Added” are ready to use:

Exploring Subscription and Trial Options
Some extensions are available through subscription plans. Don’t worry if you are unsure about committing — many extensions offer trial periods without requiring any credit card information. Just click on the Request trial button, and the extension will be labeled as “Trying” during the trial phase:

If satisfied, you can subscribe by selecting a monthly or yearly plan. Academic users can also access discounted academic plans:

Extensions you subscribe to are marked as Subscribed for clarity:

Managing Your Extensions
Removing or managing your extensions is just as easy. Visit the Marketplace or navigate to Account > Settings on SAMSON Connect to view all your extensions. Hovering over the Added button will reveal a Remove button, which can be used to uninstall a free extension:

You can also manage subscriptions by heading to the My Subscriptions section in your account settings. Here, you can oversee your currently active subscriptions or cancel as needed:

Conclusion: Expanding What’s Possible
The extensibility of SAMSON eliminates much of the hassle molecular modelers face in assembling and learning separate tools. By understanding how to quickly and effectively add, trial, and manage extensions, you maximize the platform’s potential and focus on what truly matters: your molecular modeling endeavors.
