Simplifying Molecular Modeling with SAMSON Extensions

For molecular modelers, customizing and extending their molecular modeling software to suit specific research needs is a fundamental part of their workflow. SAMSON, the integrative molecular design platform, offers a highly versatile SAMSON Extensions Marketplace, which allows users to seamlessly add new functionalities. This blog post provides a practical guide on managing your SAMSON Extensions, covering everything from finding and adding extensions to handling subscriptions and removals.

Discovering the Potential of SAMSON Extensions

SAMSON Extensions are dedicated modules that expand the capabilities of the SAMSON platform. These extensions can help you visualize molecular data, run advanced calculations, simulate molecular dynamics, and more. The Extensions Marketplace serves as a one-stop shop where you can find these tools to enhance your research.

To get started, navigate to the Marketplace through SAMSON Connect. Here, you’ll find a wide range of both free and subscription-based extensions. Each extension has detailed information about its description, compatibility with operating systems, and supported SAMSON versions.

Adding SAMSON Extensions

Adding a SAMSON Extension is simple. Free extensions can be integrated into your SAMSON installation with just a few clicks. Once signed in, click the Add button for the desired extension on its Marketplace page. The extension will be marked as “Added.” Upon restarting SAMSON, the software will automatically download and install the selected extension, making it ready for use.

Explore Trial and Subscription Options

If a desired extension requires a subscription, SAMSON provides both trial and paid options. A trial period allows you to test the extension without sharing your payment information. Simply click the Request trial button, and the extension will be marked as “Trying.”

For extended use, subscription plans (monthly, yearly, or academic) are available. To subscribe, click the Subscribe button and choose the appropriate plan. Academic subscriptions offer discounts for users affiliated with educational institutions.

Removing or Managing Extensions

Managing your extensions is straightforward through your Account > Settings menu on SAMSON Connect. To remove an extension, locate it in the Marketplace or your settings, hover over the Added button (which changes to Remove), and click it. The extension will then be uninstalled upon the next restart of SAMSON.

Your subscriptions can also be managed from the same settings area. Use the View my subscriptions option to track or cancel current subscriptions. Uninstalled or unsubscribed extensions remain visible in your account, making it easy to access them again in the future.
