One of the common challenges faced by molecular modelers is the efficient exchange of documents containing models, data, and designs with colleagues or collaborators. Whether you’re working on a complex molecular structure or preparing materials for collaborative projects, ensuring secure and controlled sharing of data is essential. Fortunately, SAMSON Connect provides a seamless way to share and manage such documents.
Why Share Documents on SAMSON Connect?
In molecular modeling projects, different users often need access to the same document at different stages—maybe to review a hypothesis, contribute edits, or simply use the data for their own molecular analyses. It’s also important to maintain control over who has access and what permissions they hold. This is where SAMSON Connect steps in, offering a robust solution for publishing and managing shared molecular documents efficiently.
How to Share Your Documents
Using SAMSON, documents can be easily shared via SAMSON Connect – Documents. To do so, follow these steps:
- In SAMSON, click Home > Publish to open the document sharing dialog.
- Enter the document name and description to provide relevant context for collaborators.
- Choose your preferred visibility option for the document:
- Public: Anyone can access the document, but editing requires specific permissions.
- Hidden: The document is accessible only via a specific link, and editing remains restricted to authorized users.
- Restricted: Both access and editing require permissions, ensuring full control over your document.
Once the settings are configured, click Publish document. At this point, SAMSON Connect will provide a shareable link for your document, which you can distribute as needed.

Here’s an example of the publishing interface, where you can manage crucial details like visibility settings and descriptions to ensure effective collaboration.
Managing Shared Documents
After publishing, all shared documents can be accessed and managed via your SAMSON Connect account. This includes finding documents shared with you or those you’ve shared with others. You can also modify access rights at a later time if your collaboration requirements change. For advanced management of access rights, groups, and permissions, see the guidance on managing documents.

The screenshot above illustrates how visibility settings and document descriptions can be tailored directly in the dialog window before publishing.
Start Sharing Smartly
By using SAMSON Connect’s document-sharing functionality, you can simplify communication, maintain control over access, and save time during collaborative molecular modeling projects. Whether you’re sharing a public resource or securing sensitive data, SAMSON Connect has you covered.
