For molecular modelers working in collaborative environments, managing shared access to models, documents, and jobs can be a real challenge, especially when projects grow in complexity. SAMSON Connect offers a straightforward solution to this pain through its comprehensive group management feature, helping researchers organize their collaborations effortlessly.
Why Use Groups?
Groups in SAMSON Connect allow you to create controlled environments for collaboration. Whether you’re leading a research team or participating in multi-institutional projects, groups serve as a central hub where members can share files, cloud jobs, and resources securely. Not only can you create public or private groups tailored to your needs, but you can also manage memberships and roles seamlessly.
Creating and Managing Groups
Setting up a group is quick and flexible:
- Navigate to Groups in your user menu on SAMSON Connect.
- Click Create a Group to get started.
- Control the group visibility by choosing between public or private settings.
- Define how others join the group—by invitation, application, or open membership.

Flexible Membership Control
Managing members and roles within a group ensures that responsibilities are distributed effectively. As a group owner, you can:
- Edit role assignments (e.g., member, editor, or owner).
- Set membership end dates to maintain appropriate access over time.
- Quickly add new members using their username, full name, or email address.
Even if an invitee doesn’t yet have a SAMSON account, you can invite them by entering their email address. This ease of member addition promotes collaboration, even with external partners.

Customizing Group Features
Owners have tools to adapt groups for any project. Editing a group is as intuitive as editing a profile:
- Modify the group description and visibility to suit your project’s goals.
- Manage shared resources directly within the group, including documents, jobs, and SAMSON extensions.

Group-based Access to Shared Resources
Integrating groups with shared resources streamlines collaboration. Documents, jobs, and other materials shared with a group are automatically accessible to members based on their roles. This centralization eliminates the need for repetitive individual permission settings and makes resource management significantly faster.
