The Extension Is Installed—So Where Did It Go?

You add a SAMSON Extension through SAMSON Connect, open SAMSON, and then can’t find it. It’s an easy problem to misread: the extension may not be installed yet, may not support your platform or SAMSON version, or may simply not appear as a visible app or editor. Checking these possibilities in order can save time and help pinpoint whether you need to restart, look somewhere else, or ask for support.

Start with compatibility. Open the extension’s page on SAMSON Connect and check the availability information displayed beneath its name. Confirm that it supports both your operating system and the version of SAMSON you are using. If the extension is not available for your operating system, contact the SAMSON team through the SAMSON Connect Forum or by email at contact@samson-connect.net.

Extension availability on different operating systems

Next, check whether SAMSON needs a restart. Extensions added while SAMSON is already running are downloaded and installed on the next launch. Close and restart SAMSON, then check again. In other words, adding an extension on the website does not necessarily make it appear in the current session.

Look beyond Apps and Editors

If you restarted and still don’t see the extension, consider what kind of functionality it provides. Not every extension includes an app in Home > Apps or an editor in the editor menu on the left side of the viewport. Extensions can also provide importers, exporters, visual or interaction models, render presets, and commands.

Try Find everything at the top of SAMSON to search for available apps, editors, and commands. For other extension features, consult the extension’s description and its documentation. The Extending SAMSON guide explains the different kinds of functionality extensions can provide, and the Documentation Center includes extension tutorials.

Use the log to check what happened

If the extension still seems missing, open Interface > Show log. Filter the log for the extension’s name and look for messages that indicate whether SAMSON loaded it or encountered an issue. The documentation notes that relevant error lines are colored red. If you find a problem, you can send the log to the SAMSON team by clicking Submit. Include your user email and a brief description of what you expected to happen; that context can help explain the log.

A quick troubleshooting checklist

  1. Confirm the extension supports your operating system and SAMSON version.
  2. If you added it while SAMSON was open, restart SAMSON so it can download and install the extension.
  3. Don’t assume every extension appears under Apps or Editors; search with Find everything and check the extension’s documentation for its features.
  4. Open Interface > Show log, filter for the extension, and submit the log with a description if you spot an error.

This sequence separates the most common causes without treating every invisible extension as a failed installation. For more answers about accounts, installation, updates, and extensions, see the SAMSON FAQ.
