The Extension Is Installed—So Where Did It Go?

You add a SAMSON Extension from the marketplace, reopen your molecular modeling project, and then… nothing looks different. It’s an easy moment to mistake “I can’t see it” for “it didn’t install.” But extensions can provide different kinds of functionality, and not every extension appears as a button, app, or editor. A quick, orderly check can help you find what you added—or identify what needs attention.

Start with compatibility

Before troubleshooting the interface, open the extension’s page on SAMSON Connect Marketplace. Check the availability information shown below its name. An extension must be available for both your operating system and the version of SAMSON you’re using. If it is not listed for your platform, contact the team through the SAMSON Connect Forum or by email at contact@samson-connect.net.

Extension availability on different operating systems

Give SAMSON a fresh launch

If SAMSON was already open when you added the extension, restart it. Newly added extensions are automatically downloaded and installed the next time SAMSON launches. In other words, adding an extension on the website while the application is open does not necessarily make its functionality appear immediately.

It’s also worth knowing that extension updates are handled at launch: SAMSON checks for new versions and downloads and installs them automatically. These extension updates are available for the latest SAMSON version, so keeping the application current can matter when you’re checking whether an extension is available or up to date.

Look for the kind of tool it actually provides

An extension does not have to appear in the same place as another extension. Some provide Apps, which can be found under Home > Apps. Others provide Editors, accessible from the editors menu on the left side of the viewport. But an extension may instead supply an importer, exporter, visual or interaction model, render preset, command, or other functionality.

Try Find everything at the top of SAMSON to search for apps, editors, and commands. If you don’t find a matching button or panel, that alone does not establish that the extension is missing: its tools may be exposed in another way. The extension’s page and description can help you understand what it provides.

Use the log to check what happened

If compatibility, a restart, and a search don’t explain the issue, open Interface > Show log. Filter for the extension’s name. The log can show whether SAMSON processed the extension and may reveal errors; lines related to an extension that indicate a problem are colored red. If you find relevant messages, use the log’s Submit button to send the log, together with your user email and a description of the problem.

This sequence helps separate four different questions: Is the extension compatible? Has SAMSON had a chance to install it? Am I looking in the right place for its functionality? Did the log report a problem? Answering them in order is often more useful than repeatedly adding the extension or searching the interface at random.
