Creating compelling molecular animations is an essential skill for modelers aiming to communicate complex ideas or results effectively. Whether you are designing a captivating sequence for a presentation or demonstrating specific molecular behaviors, pauses can be as important as movement. The Pause animation in the SAMSON platform allows you to easily insert precise breaks into your animations, holding attention at key moments and ensuring clarity.
Why Use Pause Animations?
Imagine presenting a molecular simulation where an intricate interaction occurs at a specific point in time. Without a pause, the audience may miss the key event. The Pause animation feature helps by halting the sequence at a given frame for a defined period. This ensures your audience has the time to observe and understand important details, resulting in better engagement and comprehension.
Setting Up the Pause Animation
Introducing a pause animation into your presentation is a straightforward process in SAMSON. Follow these steps to add a pause:
- Open the Animation panel within the Animator.
- Double-click on the Pause animation effect. This places a keyframe on your current frame for the pause.
- If needed, move the keyframe to the exact frame you wish to pause on. The ability to adjust these keyframes at any time gives you flexibility in timing and sequencing.
Note:
You can adjust the position of the keyframes even after adding the animation to refine your sequence further.
Fine-Tuning Pause Properties
After adding the pause, you can refine its properties to match your presentation’s needs. Here’s how to customize the pause duration:
- Select the Pause animation node in the Document view.
- Open the Inspector.
- Specify the duration of the pause in seconds. This level of control lets you synchronize your pauses perfectly with your explanation or audience’s focus.

Smart Utilization of Pauses
Using pauses effectively is an art. Consider these tips to maximize the impact:
- Use pauses to emphasize moments of interest, like showing a ligand binding to a receptor.
- Combine pauses with annotations or voice-over to add additional context.
- Avoid overusing pauses to maintain a natural flow in your animations.
Strategically placed pauses can transform a dense molecular presentation into a digestible and impactful story. By integrating the Pause animation in SAMSON, you give your audience time to follow along and fully appreciate the intricate details of your work.
