Working with molecular models often comes with a challenge: smoothly transitioning representations of nodes into view. Whether you're showcasing structural models, visual models, meshes, or labels, you may have encountered opacity-related hurdles with animations. This is where SAMSON's Appear animation takes center stage. Let's explore how you can make molecules 'emerge' seamlessly in your work.
What Does the Appear Animation Do?
The Appear animation lets specific nodes progressively appear by decreasing their transparency. This is particularly useful for nodes with transparency attributes such as:
- Structural models
- Visual models
- Meshes
- Labels
For nodes lacking a transparency attribute (like individual atoms or bonds), the animation works similarly to the Show animation. However, you can bypass this limitation by applying the animation to their parent structural models.
Step-by-Step: How to Add the Appear Animation
Adding this animation to your model is straightforward. Follow these steps:
- Select the nodes you want to animate to progressively appear.
- In the Animation panel of the Animator, double-click on the Appear animation effect.
This action adds the animation to your selected nodes with 4 keyframes:
- Between keyframes 1 and 2: the nodes are fully transparent.
- Between keyframes 2 and 3: the nodes progressively appear as their transparency decreases.
- Between keyframes 3 and 4: the nodes become fully opaque (no transparency).
Fine-tune the timing of the animation by moving the keyframes. It's as flexible as you need it to be.
Refining the Animation Using Easing Curves
Want a smoother or more dramatic appearance effect? Modify how the parameters are interpolated between frames by customizing the Easing curve. Easing curves let you control the animation's flow, making the transitions feel more natural or stylized depending on the effect you're going for.
