A molecular modeling task often depends on having the right tools available—but finding an extension, understanding whether it fits your setup, and figuring out whether it is free or paid can interrupt the work. SAMSON Connect’s Marketplace brings those decisions together: you can review extensions, check their stated compatibility, and add, try, or subscribe to them from the same place.
Check fit before adding an extension
Open an extension’s page to review its description, authors, supported operating systems, available extension versions, and the SAMSON versions for which it is available. Checking these details before adding an extension can help you narrow down whether it is relevant to your installation and working environment.

Extensions may be included with your current plan, available to add for free, or offered through a subscription. Since SAMSON functionality and the number of free extensions may vary by plan, it is useful to check your plan as well as the extension’s own listing before deciding what to add.
Try before subscribing
If an extension uses a subscription model, you may be able to request a trial. The documentation notes that requesting a trial does not require credit card information. During the trial period, the extension is marked as Trying. If you decide it suits your needs, you can then choose an available monthly or yearly subscription; an academic plan is available if you have academic status.

This gives you a practical sequence: inspect the extension details, request a trial if one is offered, and subscribe only if you want to continue using it. For a free extension, signed-in users can select Add.
Know when changes take effect
Adding an extension on SAMSON Connect does not mean you need to hunt for a separate installer. After you add it, the Marketplace marks it as Added. Restart SAMSON, and it downloads and installs the extension automatically.

Keep that restart step in mind when planning your work: if you need an extension for a session already in progress, account for the fact that installation happens when SAMSON is restarted.
Keep your extension list manageable
You can remove a free extension from its Marketplace page. Sign in, open the extension, and hover over the Added button; it changes to Remove. Click it to remove the extension from your installation. After restarting SAMSON, the extension is removed there. The extension remains visible in your account’s extension list, so you can add it again later if needed.
For subscription extensions, go to Account > Settings and choose View my subscriptions to manage them. The account settings also provide access to your extensions and plan. Keeping track of what you have added and what you subscribe to can make it easier to maintain a setup that matches your current projects.

A quick decision checklist
- Need to assess fit? Review the extension description, supported operating systems, and version information.
- It is free? Sign in and select Add; restart SAMSON to install it.
- It requires a subscription? Check whether a trial is offered, then review the available subscription options.
- Finished with it? Remove a free extension from its Marketplace page, or manage subscriptions through account settings.
This small check before and after adding an extension can prevent a common source of friction: not knowing what is available, what it costs, or how to undo a change when your needs shift.
