A Practical Guide to Managing Your SAMSON Extensions

For molecular modelers using the SAMSON platform, organizing and turning the right features on or off at the right time can save both time and computational resources. Whether you’re switching between different projects, collaborating in a team, or simply exploring new functionality, knowing how to manage your SAMSON Extensions efficiently is essential.

This post walks you through how to add, try, subscribe to, and remove SAMSON Extensions using the Marketplace on SAMSON Connect. These modular building blocks serve a wide range of purposes—from visualization and modeling to simulations and AI-enhanced predictions.

Finding the Right Extension

Head over to the Marketplace section on SAMSON Connect. Here, all available SAMSON Extensions are categorized and clearly displayed. Extensions provide their own pages detailing what they do, who authored them, their platform compatibility, and the SAMSON versions they support.

Restart SAMSON afterward, and it will automatically fetch and install your selected extension.

Trying or Subscribing to Paid Extensions

Some extensions require a subscription. You have two options:

  • Try an extension for free via the Request trial button—no credit card required.
  • Subscribe monthly or yearly. If you’re affiliated with a university, consider selecting the academic plan.

Keeping Track of Removed Extensions

Even after removal, extensions stay visible in your account under View my extensions so you can easily reinstall them later if needed. When experimenting with multiple extensions or optimizing the working environment, this flexibility is particularly helpful.

In summary, SAMSON Connect provides an intuitive interface for managing your molecular modeling toolbox. Whether you are trying a new quantum chemistry module, removing an old one, or fine-tuning your environment for a specific workflow, everything you need is just a few clicks away.
