As molecular modelers, we often need specific tools for our research—whether it’s visualization tweaks, structure preparation helpers, or access to advanced simulation algorithms. But installing and managing plug-ins or modules across platforms can be frustrating and time-consuming, especially when you just want to focus on your science.
This is where SAMSON Extensions and the SAMSON Connect Marketplace can make a real difference. Extensions in SAMSON are modules that give you access to additional features. These range from free utilities to premium tools you can subscribe to—or even try out, trial-style—without needing to install anything manually beyond a few clicks.
Browse, Add, or Trial in One Place
The Marketplace lets you browse all available extensions. These are categorized by function and compatible with your operating system and SAMSON version. For every extension, you’ll instantly see its description, supported platforms, and more.

How to Add a Free Extension
Once signed in, adding a free extension is a single click. Press the Add button, and it’s automatically added to your SAMSON installation. The button changes to “Added” to confirm its status.

When you restart SAMSON, the extension is downloaded and installed automatically.
Need an Advanced Extension? Try Before Subscribing
Some extensions operate under a subscription model. The good news? You don’t need a credit card to start a trial. Just click on Request Trial and the extension will appear as “Trying” in your list.

Ready to commit? You can subscribe via simple monthly or yearly plans. If you have academic status, discounted academic plans are available.

Managing Extensions
You can manage all added or subscribed extensions from your account’s settings. To remove a free extension, hover over the “Added” button to reveal the “Remove” option and click it.

Subscribed extensions can be managed under Account > Settings > View my subscriptions. From there, you can easily view or cancel subscriptions as needed.

Why this matters
Whether you’re a graduate student exploring molecular docking or a researcher focused on protein dynamics, being able to quickly configure your modeling environment with the tools you need—without software headaches—can make a noticeable impact on daily productivity.
