Many molecular modelers find themselves endlessly emailing large project files back and forth with colleagues. With multiple versions circulating and storage tools that aren’t tailored for research data, things can get convoluted quickly. Who has the latest version? Where did that link go? Why can’t they access the file?
If this sounds familiar, you’ll want to know about the document sharing system in SAMSON Connect. It offers a straightforward way to share molecular models, datasets, and research notes — without version confusion or permission issues.
Quick Publishing from SAMSON
Whether working on an AlphaFold model, running GROMACS simulations, or simply preparing a presentation, you can share your work directly from SAMSON with just a couple of clicks. Simply go to:
Home > Publish
This opens a dialog where you can:
- Give your document a name and description
- Choose its visibility level (Public, Hidden, or Restricted)

Then click Publish document. That’s it—your document is live and shareable. You even get a link right away for emailing or posting into team chat.
Control Who Sees What
SAMSON Connect gives you several options depending on how sensitive your results are:
- Public: Anyone with the link can view and download it.
- Hidden: Only people with the link can access it.
- Restricted: You decide exactly who can access or edit it.
That last one is especially helpful for collaborations involving unpublished work or sensitive data.

Ongoing Document Management
Once you’ve shared a document, you don’t lose sight of it. On SAMSON Connect, click your user menu’s Documents section to:
- View all documents you created or received
- Edit document details and visibility
- Grant or revoke access to users and groups

You can also add collaborators later via email address—even if they don’t yet have a SAMSON account. Inviting a colleague to view or collaborate on a structure becomes as easy as adding them to your doc access list.
Why This Makes a Difference
Using SAMSON’s built-in sharing tools means:
- No more emailing huge files back and forth.
- A single version of each document, with clear permissions.
- One-click links to share research securely and quickly.
For research groups, this also means cleaner workflows, especially when multiple people contribute to a project over time. Every document is trackable, accessible from your SAMSON Connect account, and never lost in someone’s inbox.
